Gaaf Dhaal Madaveli MP Mohamed Shameez has threatened political appointees with dismissals for not campaigning for the April 4 local council elections.

In a post on social media, Shameez said that political appointees in his constituency who do no campaign for ruling party candidates are not eligible for their positions.

"... such people have two choices. Remain in the position or resign," the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) MP wrote.

It is unclear why he made this post.

But some candidates who wanted to contest on the PNC ticket have been upset after they were rejected by the party.
