A special operation is underway in two atolls to track down a drug trafficking network, police have revealed.

In a statement, police said this was part of Operation Alimagu, which began in November 2025 with more than 500 police officers.

The operation is currently underway in Gaaf Alif atoll and Male' atoll. The operation is targeting those accused of laundering the proceeds of the drug trade.

"As part of this operation, the suspects and their premises will be searched and all necessary law enforcement measures will be taken," police said.

The operation is conducted by special teams of South Police, Main Intelligence Department and Drug Enforcement.

About 29 kilograms of drugs were seized and 110 people were arrested in the first major busts under Operation Alimagu in November 2025.
