Maldives and India discuss enhanced maritime security cooperation and counter narcotics efforts

Discussions have been held between the Maldives and India to enhance cooperation in addressing challenges in maritime security and bolstering joint efforts to curb narcotics trafficking.

The discussions took place during the ongoing visit of India’s Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, to the Maldives. Vice Admiral Sobti met with the Maldives Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, yesterday.

The meeting, held at the invitation of Major General Hilmy, focused on key areas including addressing challenges in maritime security, expanding training programs and counter-narcotics efforts.

Both countries also discussed continuing existing projects and improving the exchange of maritime security intelligence and information.

During his visit, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti also presented the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) with spare parts required for the Coast Guard vessel, CGS Huravee.
