An employee of the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) who suffered serious burns in an incident at the old power station in Hulhumale' has passed away.

He died this morning while being treated at a Bangkok hospital. He was taken to Thailand for further treatment on November 30.

Ahmed Azmeel, 43, who was working as a supervisor at STELCO, was burned in the incident on November 26.

In a statement on the day of the incident, STELCO said it happened while working to resolve a problem with a switchgear.

STELCO said the cause of the electrocution was being investigated by the company and the police. STELCO said it will cooperate with the police investigation.

So far, no details of the investigation have been released by the police or STELCO.
