Haa Alif Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Waheed has been suspended after the Local Government Authority (LGA) investigated complaints following instructions from Councils Minister Adam Shareef.

In an announcement on Monday, the LGA stated that Waheed has been suspended while the remaining councillors in Hoarafushi had also been advised as an administrative punishment.

Complaints investigated by LGA

• Violating financial rules to hold a volleyball tournament
• Expanding area for land plots in violation of land use plan
• Violating financial rules to purchase palm trees
• Violating financial rules to arrange festivities for Eid
• Procurement employees sitting on the bid committee
• Failure to provide information requested under RTI Act
• Violating financial rules to issue funds to purchase equipment for Eid and the items were not delivered to the council
