A police senior sergeant has been arrested for allegedly stealing cigarette cartons held at the Villimale' Police Station.

Police are investigating two cases of missing cigarette cartons from the Villimale' Police Station. It is unclear which case he was connected with.

The suspect is 39-year-old Munawwar Adam, a senior sergeant rank of the police. Police said he had been put on suspension from the force.

"The case is currently being investigated as a joint investigation by the police and the National Integrity Commission," police stated.

On May 23, police confiscated 32 cigarette cartons from a foreign national. Six cartons were found to be missing on November 12.

They also confiscated 25 cigarette cartons from two foreign nationals on December 23, 2024. It was discovered to have gone missing on November 12.
