President Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to build a mixed-use market with Japanese assistance.
Speaking during his meeting with the people of Henveiru district in Male' on Sunday night, Muizzu said it will be built on the grounds of the current local market.
"We have already spoken to them to carry out the project as a grant assistance from the Japanese government. A Japanese technical team will come soon," he said.
Muizzu further said the new facility will be developed to accommodate both fish sellers and agricultural produce.
The current fish market will be developed as a building for fisheries businesses, associations and offices, he added.
