Police have started an investigation after a 24-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in Male' city.

The woman sought police assistance on the street on the evening of November 16. Police officers helped transport her to the hospital.

Officials from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) reported the sexual assault to the police after medically evaluating the woman.

"After evaluation, the hospital reported the sexual assault on the same night. The victim is a 24-year-old woman," police said.

Police said the woman was receiving medical treatment and psychological assistance and that a serious investigation was underway.

So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the assault. Police briefed the media about the incident after reports surfaced on social media.
