Police have located the Kolama boat reported missing while travelling from Laamu atoll to Huvadhu atoll.

The boat was in the Ekefara region. Police said their teams were at the scene. The boat was reported missing at around 1:25 am.

"The boat captain is being evacuated to Villingili hospital in a police launch," the police said without providing details.

But they later told the media that the captain was dead when taken to the hospital. Police said further investigations were underway.

Kolama boat left Laamu atoll at around 10:00 pm on Sunday. The boat usually transports cargo from Male' to the atolls.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) was involved in the search operation for the vessel.
