Adhadhu has learnt that one of the suspects arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Abdul Rahman Adam in Alif Alif Maalhos is a political appointee of the current government.

Mohamed Wisaam is the youth associate appointed by the government to the Maalhos Youth Centre. He was arrested in the early hours of last night.

The other two suspects are Ahmed Ashid and Ahmed Faris. All three belong to Maalhos island.

Wisaam and Faris were arrested from Maalhos. Faris is an employee of State Electric Company (STELCO). Faris was arrested from capital Male'.

Some residents from Maalhos told Adhadhu that Ashid had hostility towards Abdul Rahman and his family in the past.

They include a dispute over a refusal to return money given to a member of Ashid’s family by Abdul Rahman’s son and sorcery accusations against Abdul Rahman.

On August 10, police seized phones from five people and clothing from one person. They included the phones and clothing from the suspects arrested last night.

Abdul Rahman was brutally murdered in his home in Maalhos on July 13. He had sustained severe injuries to his head.
