The State Trading Organization (STO) has decided to bring in a shipment of onions from India due to a shortage in Male'.

STO Corporate Branding Officer Yoosuf Shah told Adhadhu that the company decided to bring a shipment of onions from India to address the shortage.

“STO is bringing a shipment from India to address the onion shortage in the market,” he said.

Shah said the shipment would be brought to the market soon and the aim is to resolve the shortage as soon as possible.

STO usually imports onions when there is a shortage and for the fasting month of Ramadan every year.

Many of the big supermarkets in Male' were out of onions on Tuesday. As a result, prices have risen sharply from MVR 15 to MVR 15 per kg.
