Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed has been sacked.

Fazeel is accused of trying to acquire land in Hulhumale' Phase 2 by submitting fake documents. He was suspended on December 19, 2024.

"This is a step taken by the Board of Directors to safeguard the interests of the company. The Board considers that it is not in the interest of the company to keep Mohamed Fazeel in a senior position for a long period with pay," MWSC stated.

He had been on suspension with pay for 201 days.

Fazeel's brother and former Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed is a key suspect in the case.

Fazeel is accused of submitting fake documents to prove that he is the owner of one of the plots designated for a housing scheme in Hulhumale'.

Fazul denied all the allegations and said his brother's involvement in the case is a coincidence. He also denied that HDC had issued documents to his brother.

Fazeel applied for a land plot under the Binveriya scheme. However, he was disqualified as he had received housing under a previous scheme.
