Police have rescued a foreigner held hostage inside a house in Male'.

Police said they received the report at around 6:00 am today. Police rushed to the scene and found the house locked.

"The lock was broken and the man was rescued. He is a Bangladeshi man," police said.

There were no signs of visible injury on his body, but police said he was taken to the hospital to assess his medical condition.

Police did not disclose the name of the house where he was held hostage. But Adhadhu understands the house is near the cemetery in Mahchangolhi ward.

Police said further investigations were underway.
