Maldives welcomes over one million tourists so far this year

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed the one million mark for the year, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

As of Wednesday, a total of 1,021,280 tourists had visited the Maldives, representing a 9.5% increase compared to the same period last year, when 932,396 arrivals were recorded.

China has emerged as the top source market in 2025, with 122,741 Chinese tourists arriving in the Maldives by June 11. Russia followed with 113,741 visitors, while the United Kingdom ranked third.

India, which previously led the arrivals chart, slipped to sixth place with 59,702 visitors recorded so far this year.

As of June 11, the Maldives had a total of 65,115 tourist beds, with 98.3% of them operational, according to the ministry.

In terms of atoll-wise distribution, K. Atoll recorded the highest number of tourist stays, with 449,513 visitors. Adh. Atoll ranked second with 90,953 arrivals, followed by R. Atoll in third place.
