The youth protest in Male' continued on Friday night as Hawwa Yumnu, 21, who was critically injured after falling from a building, spoke to her family about the incident.
The protest began near the Sergeant Adam Haleem Investigation Building at 9:00 pm on Friday. A large police presence was seen in the area.
On Thursday night, Yumnu's sister appeared on TV channels and announced that Yumnu had spoken to the family about the incident.
"The incident that happened in that house, whatever happened, Yumnu herself has said, she did not do it on her own. She did not fall on her own," she said.
"There were four more people besides Raudh."
Yumnu's sister.
Yumnu also told the family that she had previously visited Henveiru Fentenoy house. Police believe she fell from a ninth-floor window in the stairwell of the house.
She also said that on the night of the incident on April 18, she had gone to the house on the invitation of Yoosuf Yassar Abdul Ghafoor.
According to police, Yumnu had been at a "drug-fueled party" with Yassar and seven others at another house before the incident.
The party was at Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen's house. Police later said they could not get video footage from the house because the cameras were broken.
The group had left the house later that night and four people went to Henveiru Kashiveli house connected to Yassar. They left that house about ten minutes later.
A few minutes later, Yumnu and Raudh Ahmed Zilal were seen on CCTV entering Fentenoy house. Video footage from inside the house shows them in the stairwell.
There have been accusations of police lying to Yumnu's family, tampering with video footage and victim-blaming to cover up the case because it involved relatives of politically influential and wealthy figures.
Raudh, who left the scene and did not report to authorities after Yumnu's fall, was not arrested despite testing positive for cannabis. None of the others who attended the "drug-fueled party" had also been arrested. Raudh was arrested six days after the incident following public outrage.
Yumnu was found with multiple life-threatening injuries on the roof of a warehouse next to Fentenoy house, nearly three hours after her fall. She was airlifted to Malaysia for medical treatment.
According to the family, she has been recovering after a major surgery and is now able to speak and recollect the incident.
The family has complained about the police investigation and also rejected a presidential commission formed after the youth protests.
Police Commissioner Ali Shujau resigned amid the protests and lead investigator Mohamed Samih has been transferred to a different department. Several other police departments have also been reshuffled.
Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen, who is now in charge of Yumnu's case, has been appointed as the interim police commissioner.
