Education Minister Ismail Shafeeu has said the school being built in Hulhumale' Phase Two will be completed by November.
Appearing at the People's Majlis on Monday morning, Shafeeu said residents have been facing difficulties because there was only one school in the area.
“The school we are currently building next to the Hiya flats in Phase Two will hopefully be completed by November this year with 54 classrooms," he said.
He further said residents are facing difficulties due to a lack of school near the Polco and Sifco towers in Hulhumale' Phase One.
“As the president has said, we will start work on two more schools this year, one in phase two and one in phase one," Shafeeu announced.
The education minister also told the parliament that 11 percent of schools have so far been installed with air conditioning systems under the Cool School project.
Shafeeu said 802 ACs have been installed in 401 out of 3,740 classrooms in the Maldives. That is 10.72 percent.
“We will hopefully have all the classrooms in the schools air-conditioned before the end of this year,” he said.
The Cool School project was launched in June 2024 to complete the air conditioning of the schools within two years.
Some parents have complained about schools collecting money to install ACs. But the education ministry said it was prohibited.
