The family of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who was found seriously injured after falling from the ninth floor of a building in Male', has called for Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Samih to be removed from the investigation.
In a post on X, Mohamed Moomin wrote that the family does not trust Samih because he has lied to them multiple times.
"We get it... real change is hard when you’re part of the system. But you can start by sacking Mr. Samih, the police officer who repeatedly lied to us during meetings," he wrote.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has created a Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Yumnu's unexplained fall on April 18.
Dr. Mohamed Munavvar, Brigadier General (Retired) Ahmed Mohamed and Dr. Mohamed Habeeb were appointed to the commission.
However, Habeeb resigned from the commission today, less than 48 hours after his appointment on Saturday. It is unclear why he resigned.
But the suspect in custody, Raudh Zilal, is reportedly a distant relative of Habeeb.

Police believe Yumnu, 21, fell from a window in the stairwell of Henveiru Fentenoy house. Raudh, 21, who was with her at the time of the incident, left the scene and did not report to authorities. He was arrested six days later.
According to the President's Office, the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry has been tasked with conducting an independent, autonomous, and credible investigation into the incident.
The commission was formed amid nightly protests by young people demanding accountability and a transparent investigation.
The police have faced immense criticism over their response following Yumnu's fall. There have been accusations of a cover-up because the case involves relatives of wealthy and politically influential figures.
Senior government officials contacted protest organizers and invited them to discuss their demands. But the youth leaders said they would consider the invitation only after Muizzu publicly apologizes for his remarks and fulfills further demands.
On Sunday, police said a search had been conducted at the premises of those connected to the case. But no evidence was found during the raids conducted several days after the incident.
