The Civil Court has ordered all banks in the Maldives to freeze the funds in the accounts of Jaah Investments Pvt Ltd, which was awarded the contract to build "The Gardens" apartment building in Hulhumale'.

On Thursday, the court ordered all the banks to identify accounts in the name of Jaah Pvt Ltd, find out the amount of money in the accounts and freeze the funds and inform the bank before 12:00 noon on Tuesday.

The order was issued on:

  • Bank of Ceylon
  • Bank of Maldives (BML)
  • Habib Bank
  • Maldives Islamic Bank
  • State Bank of India
  • The Mauritius Commercial Bank
  • Commercial Bank of Maldives

Jaah began "The Gardens" project in 2017. It has a total of 83 luxury units, including 28 suites and 55 villas. However, Jaah did not complete the work within the multiple deadlines given by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

HDC cancelled the agreement in March after giving notice to Jaah on January 27. HDC said it would inform the apartment buyers of the new plans to complete the project.
