The UK has issued a travel advisory to its citizens over the threat of a terrorist attack in the Maldives.

The UK Foreign Office issued a travel advisory saying some terrorist groups have called for attacks against British nationals.

"The current conflict in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories has led to heightened tensions around the world. Terrorist groups, such as Al-Qaida and Daesh, have called on their supporters to carry out terrorist attacks in response. The conflict could also motivate individuals to carry out attacks, including in Maldives," it stated.

Meanwhile, security forces carried out a joint anti-terrorism operation in the Male' region during Ramadan and detained three suspects.

"These operations are routinely conducted in line with intelligence reports, as preventive measures, to ensure the safety and security of the Maldives," the Foreign Ministry said at the time.

It was the first anti-terrorism operation underway since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office in November 2023.
