A young couple who suffered serious burns in a fire in Alif Alif Rasdhoo on Monday night are in critical condition.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) media officer Hawwa Afeefa told Adhadhu that the husband and wife, both 31-years-old, are on a ventilator.

"This morning [Tuesday], they were being treated in the emergency room. They are a 31-year-old woman and a man. The woman has been admitted to the ICU. The man is being transferred to the ICU. Both are being treated on a ventilator," she said.

Rasdhoo council president Mohamed Nahid told Adhadhu that fire happened in the couple's room and that no one else had been injured. The couple also has a five-year-old child.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Police have not yet commented on the incident.
