Adhadhu has learnt that Ahmed Usaid Ibrahim Afeef, who went missing from Malaysia, is in the custody of Malaysian police.
A source told Adhadhu that Malaysian police had arrested Usaid. However, the source did not give any details.
Usaid's father, former MP Ibrahim Afeef, said that he had met Usaid while he was in Malaysian police custody.
"Usaid is in Malaysian police custody. He was arrested on a complaint that he was following someone. Police say he will be released after the investigation," he said.
The Maldives Embassy in Malaysia and the Foreign Ministry could not be reached for comment.
Usaid went missing on Sunday. His family reported to the Malaysian police and the Maldives Embassy in Malaysia that same day.
A large number of Maldivian students and their families live in Malaysia,, and the country is a popular holiday destination for many Maldivians.
