Ahmed Usaid Ibrahim Afeef, a Maldivian national reported missing in Malaysia, went to the Maldives Embassy on the day of his disappearance.
Usaid went missing on Sunday. The Foreign Ministry said they had received the reports of a missing Maldivian national and the Maldives embassy in Malaysia was working to locate him. But no further details were provided.
In a post on Facebook, the missing man's father, Ibrahim Afeef, wrote that his son left home at Sunway Geo at around 3:15 pm on Sunday.
Afeef, a former MP of the special People's Majlis, said police were informed at around 10:00 pm on Sunday after the family could not reach Usaid.
He added that the Maldives embassy was also reported that same day.
“The CCTV footage and information gathered from some people revealed that Usaid went to the Maldives embassy at around 4:00 pm on the same day,” Afeef wrote.
Usaid left his wallet and student identity card inside the embassy. Afeef said these items had now been handed over to the family.
Although the CCTV footage shows Usaid alive and in good health, his current location is still unknown, and the reason for visiting the embassy is unclear.
The cameras at the Maldives embassy showed Usaid wearing a red T-shirt.
Afeef thanked the public, Malaysian police and the Maldives embassy for their assistance while the search for his son continued.
A large number of Maldivian students and their families live in Malaysia,, and the country is a popular holiday destination for many Maldivians.
