Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel has told the parliament that details of the 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Chinese government during President Mohamed Muizzu's visit to the country in September will be provided at a later date.
Maavashu MP Ahmed Shakir requested the minister to provide copies of the MoUs. In response, Khaleel told the parliament that details will be provided later.
"Further discussions are currently underway between the two countries to reach an agreement on the MoUs mentioned in the letter. We will share the information with the relevant authorities as soon as these efforts are completed," Khaleel said in his letter.
Muizzu visited China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. The government did not disclose the names of the MoUs signed during the visit.
The government usually reveals the names of MoUs signed with other countries. But on September 2, the government announced that MoUs had been signed with China, without mentioning the names of the MoUs.
When questioned about the MoUs, the President's Office said the information will be available from the Foreign Ministry. But the ministry is yet to disclose any information about the MoUs.
