Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has met the opposition parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Nazil.
The meeting between Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem and Hithadhoo South MP Nazil took place at the People's Majlis Secretariat today.
Nazil told Adhadhu that he met with Abdul Raheem to discuss the agenda for the opening day of the parliament.
"We talked about the parliament operations. We talked about the work to be expected when this session starts. No other matters were discussed," Nazil said.
The meeting comes amid worsening relations between Abdul Raheem and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and rumours that plans were underway to remove Abdul Raheem from the Speaker position.
Abdul Raheem's son Ibrahim Faisal was sacked as Tourism Minister last week.
In an interview with a local news outlet, Abdul Raheem said Faisal would not have been sacked if his relationship with Muizzu had not deteriorated.
The government has not yet commented on the reason for his sudden dismissal.
Abdul Raheem cut short his trip to Malaysia following Faisal's dismissal and returned to the country that same night. But he avoided the press waiting for him outside the airport.
Abdul Raheem is also the Chairperson of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), but he has now been isolated from the party activities.
