More than 200,000 tourists visited the Maldives in January this year.

According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 200,241 tourists visited by January 29. This is an increase of 11 percent over the same period last year.

Some 180,288 tourists visited the Maldives in January 2024 while the figure stood at 162,134 in January 2023.

The statistics show that 69.7 percent of the tourists spent their holidays at resorts while 25.5 percent of them spent their nights at guesthouses. The remaining 4.9 percent of tourists spent their holidays in tourist hotels and vessels.

Most of the tourists were from China, followed by Russia and Italy while India ranks sixth.
