Statistics have shown that 1435 tourists with Israeli passports visited the Maldives last year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 130 of the 1435 people who entered the Maldives on Israeli passports visited in December.

The total number of Israeli tourists that have visited the Maldives since Israel began its genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023, is 2040.

They include 517 people in October 2023, 54 people in November 2023 and 34 people in December 2023.

The government has promised to ban entry on Israeli passports. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on June 2, 2024.

However, no steps have been taken to enforce the decision and Attorney General Ahmed Usham later said a blanket ban on Israeli citizens was not advisable.

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s bill on banning Israeli passports has also been stalled in the People's Majlis.

The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) MPs prefer imposing a ban on Israeli government and military officials rather than banning the Israeli passport.
