Relatives of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu have complained that they were registered as members of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) without their knowledge.

Muizzu's cousin brother Ahmed Ghaalib said in a post on X that his father, mother and younger sibling were victims of the PNC membership fraud.

"This is definitely a crime. Both of them were registered by submitting fake forms," he stated.

Ghaalib ran for Kelaa constituency in last year's parliamentary election through the ticket of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

His father and mother have been members of MDP since 2023. Ghaalib said they had not joined another party and were living in Cochin since August last year.

"No one from the PNC travelled to Cochin to fill up my mother and father's forms,” he said.

"This is too much."

Ghaalib added that his younger sibling remains admitted in hospital when his form was submitted to the Elections Commission (EC).

He said the case will be reported to the authorities.

Meanwhile, the MDP has filed reports to the police and the EC after several party members were registered to the PNC.

Despite the ruling party's membership fraud, the EC last week announced the registries of parties declaring PNC as the largest party in the country.

The EC records show that 39,985 new members were registered to the PNC in the last three months of last year.
