More than 150 private jets landed at the Velana International Airport (VIA) in December, the Maldives Airports Company (MACL) has said.
MACL said the number of jets landing at VIA this month was an eight percent increase over the previous year.
Due to the increase in flights and the heavy traffic at VIA, MACL has advised passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than the check-in time.
Every year in December, the number of private jets increases significantly.
Meanwhile, the number of tourist arrivals has increased with the country welcoming the historical two millionth visitor a few days ago.
However, departure tax and airport development fees have recently been increased under changes to the Tax Act.
