The fire in the Green Building in Maafannu spread to a building housing the Male' City Council offices, potentially damaging key documents related to the people of Male'.

Ahmed Nareesh, the Deputy Mayor of the City Council told the media that the council building, which contains birth certificates, residence registration records, land registry documents, and other important materials, was also damaged in the fire.

"If any of these documents are destroyed, it will be a huge loss for many citizens. They are irreparable and cannot be found elsewhere," he said.

Nareesh stated that the MNDF and the police were working together to evacuate the documents from the building while assessing the extent of the damage.

"This is where we provide our services. We are trying to proceed while ensuring that these materials are as safe as possible," he said.

Videos obtained by Adhadhu showed MNDF officers and Male' City Council employees attempting to remove items from the building. Files, documents, books, computers, office equipment, and other supplies are being retrieved from the premises.

The fire, which started at the Housing Ministry and Infrastructure Ministry buildings, has not yet been brought under control and has spread extensively.
