A tourist drowned while swimming at a resort in Vaavu atoll today.

In a message sent to media, police said the deceased was a 63-year-old woman from Belarus.

Police said hospital officials pronounced her dead when taken to Vaavu Felidhoo Hospital.

The incident was reported at 11:29 am and further investigations are underway.

Last Friday, a 24-year-old Maldivian man died while in the sea for fishing in Raa Alifishi island.
