Former President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Bassam Adeel Jaleel has appealed against a lower court order to seize two of his luxury apartments in the Amin Avenue building.
The case was submitted to the High Court on Tuesday. However, the High Court schedule shows that the court has not yet decided whether to accept the case.
Police decided to seize the apartments after sending a case to the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office. The police believe funds provided by FIFA to FAM were used to buy the apartments.
Police are seeking charges against the owner of Amin Avenue, Amin Construction, former head of FAM's financial department, Mohamed Agil and former senior official of FAM Hassan Waheed (Dhona).
Police allege that Bassam spent USD 1 million of the USD 1.9 million Covid loan given by FIFA to the FAM to buy the apartments. He made the payments in three instalments.
Meanwhile, Bassam's passport was also seized in February after the PG office charged him with fraud and money laundering.
