Police have summoned and questioned social media activist Thayyib Shaheem in connection to the circulation of a forged statement.

Police said Thayyib was summoned for questioning. However, they did not reveal when the questioning was conducted.

On September 12, police seized Thayyob's phone and electronic devices under a court warrant in connection to the case.

Police did not disclose whether they had obtained any evidence to prove that Thayyib circulated the forged statement.

It must be noted that police previously cloned Thayyib's SIM card during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen. This was facilitated by Dhiraagu with a court order.

Thayyib has more than 51,500 followers on X and is critical towards the government. He was the Senior Executive Director of the Tourism Ministry in the previous government.
