The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has cancelled an agreement to provide a land plot to the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to set up a football training facility in Hulhumale'.

The agreement between HDC and FAM was signed on July 11, 2018, to allocate 230,000 square feet of land to set up a football training facility in Hulhumale' Phase One.

HDC first cancelled the agreement in January this year because the agreement was not being implemented and the training facility had not been set up more than five years after the agreement was signed.

However, the decision was overturned and the land was returned to FAM.

The decision was overturned after FAM told the HDC that the association would suffer irreparable damage if the agreement was cancelled as spaces have been leased to private parties from the land plot.

However, the agreement was cancelled for the second time and the land was taken back this week. HDC has not yet disclosed the reason.

The work of setting up an accommodation block at the football training facility, which was awarded to a private company, has also been stalled.

Spaces have been allocated commercially to private companies to develop various facilities on the land.
