The number of Italian tourists visiting Maldives doubled in August compared to July, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.

According to statistics released by the ministry yesterday, 14,186 tourists arrived from Italy last month, up 7,196 in July. In August last year, 10,525 tourists arrived from Italy.

About 39,600 tourists visited from China, the largest source market, last month. That was 1,302 more than the number of tourists from China in July. In August last year, 28,530 tourists arrived from China. The number of tourists from China this year is now close to 200,000.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 1.3 million tourists visited Maldives as of last month. That was 129,127 more than the 1.2 million tourists who arrived in the country as of August last year.

Last month, tourists spent an average of 7.8 nights and 62,756 beds were sold.
