Police have said that two anti-Israel protestors were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly harassing a specific ambassador.
Adhadhu understands that the protestors are Dr. Shazra Ibrahim and religious scholar Dr. Mohamed Iyaz's wife Aishath Shadiya.
The two women were staging daily protests outside the UK embassy, German embassy, UN office and the residences of the British and Saudi ambassadors.
Police said the two women were arrested with a court order for repeatedly protesting near diplomatic missions in violation of the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act, acting in a manner that disturbs a specific ambassador and obstructing police duty.
Police said they were arrested at around 1:00 pm on Wednesday.
"They obstructed police duty when ordered to leave the area peacefully, used loudspeaker to protest, used offensive language, acted in a way that disrupted the work of diplomatic missions and harassed a specific ambassador,” police said in a statement.
However, police did not name the ambassador they had allegedly harassed or the diplomatic missions that had been disturbed because of their protest.
Police urged the public to respect the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act and follow police instructions in exercising their constitutional right to freedom of assembly.
