Police have questioned and released a man in a costume of the Marvel character Deadpool at the Velana International Airport (VIA).

Videos of the man in a Deadpool costume at the airport were posted on social media last night. One of the videos shows a couple of police officers questioning him.

Police Spokesperson and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan told Adhadhu that the man was at the airport to greet a passenger and had not been taken into custody.

"They clarified his identity and questioned him,” he said.

The incident comes just days after the character's latest movie "Deadpool and Wolverine" was released. The Marvel film which premiered on July 25 is still in theaters.

Marvel films have gained popularity in Maldives as well.
