Local Government Minister and President of the Local Government Authority (LGA) Adam Shareef has said that he is not aware of the dismissal of Mariyam Zulfa from the post of LGA CEO.

Zulfa was removed from the post of LGA CEO and transferred to the post of State Minister of Foreign Affairs today. She confirmed this to Adhadhu.

Adam Shareef told Adhadhu that he had not yet been informed of Zulfa's dismissal and had been busy with meetings today.

"I don't have to be notified of her dismissal. I have to look into it. I am not aware of her dismissal," Adam Shareef said.

On the occasion of the LGA's anniversary, Adam Shareef tagged Zulfa in a post on X today and sent her greetings on the occasion.

Several social media users have criticised the post and stated that it is concerning because Adam Shareef was unaware of Zulfa's dismissal.

Zulfa was appointed as the CEO of the LGA in December last year, seven months after the resignation of Afshan Latheef who held the post under the former government.

The LGA board consists of eight members besides President Adam Shareef. Zulfa was responsible for running the LGA and people have been expressing concern as Adam Shareef was unaware of her dismissal.

Zulfa told Adhadhu today that she did not know the reason for the change in her position, but added that she would respect every decision made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

"I am ready to do whatever the President asks me to do in the service of the country. I am among those who came to serve the country. The President said at the time that people with higher education and experience would be welcome," Zulfa said.

"I requested the President, sent my CV and came to Maldives as someone who wanted to serve. When I came, he gave me the opportunity to serve the country. I will continue to do whatever he says," she said.

Zulfa joined the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) after President Muizzu won last year's presidential election.

She was formerly in the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). She served as the Minister of Tourism in the Cabinet of former President Mohamed Nasheed. After the change of government in 2012, Zulfa moved abroad.

Zulfa holds degrees in law, urban planning and business.
