A man wanted on suspicion of fleeing the scene of an assault in Hulhumale' after hitting a policeman with a car was arrested yesterday.

The suspect is the son of former Deputy Commissioner of Police Ali Rasheed, police confirmed.

Adhadhu understands that it was Ali Rasheed's son who drove the car that hit the policeman. The car was registered under Ali Rasheed's name.

The court previously remanded another suspect arrested in the case to 15 days in custody for the investigation.

The police officer was hit by the car near the Hulhumale' number 10 flat on June 15. Police officers had gone to the area on a cycle after an assault was reported.

A video obtained by Adhadhu shows the car hitting the police officer and speeding off after the officer tried to stop two suspects from fleeing.

The police officer has since been released after treatment at the Hulhumale' hospital, police said.
