Police have denied claims about a double promotion for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's wife Sajidha Mohamed's brother Atheeq Rahman.

The claim about a double promotion for Atheeq was made on social media platform X yesterday by the anonymous "Hassan Kurusee" account.

"This is not true," Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan wrote in response to the post.

Atheeq is currently in the police inspector grade one rank. He had been promoted from the post of sub-inspector by the previous government.

Atheeq works at the police Intelligence Directorate. Adhadhu understands that he is the head of a department tasked with investigating political cases.

Superintendent of Police Ismail Shameem is presently in charge of the Intelligence Directorate.

Atheeq previously worked at the Galolhu police station, which previously oversaw traffic matters.

Double promotions are no longer possible under current police rules, Adhadhu has learned. Promotions are only given after an officer works for a specific number of years in a grade of each rank. Educational qualifications are also considered in granting promotions.
