Police have said that a woman found drifting in the sea near the Sinamale' bridge area was dead when taken to hospital.

Citing officials from the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), police said the woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police received reports of a person drifting away near Sinamale' bridge at 12:35 pm. The woman was recovered and rushed to hospital immediately.

However, police did not provide further details about the woman. The nationality or age of the woman remains unknown.

The bridge area is frequented by surfers. However, the authorities have advised the public to take precautions due to the bad weather and rough seas over the last few days.
