A man who was creating social media content as a crossdresser has been arrested under a court warrant.
In a message sent to media, police said 39-year-old Mohamed Nabeel was arrested for "creating improper videos while dressed in indecent women's clothing."
Nabeel was previously arrested for creating videos as a crossdresser. In September 2022, he was sentenced to one year in prison for indecent exposure in a video.
At the time, he was charged with the production and possession of pornography.
Earlier, he uploaded the videos via a social media account named "Yaya Nabeel." His new account was named "Lucy."
Police said further investigations were underway after Nabeel's arrest. The issue was flagged on social media on Friday.
"MPS (Maldives Police Service) has initiated an investigation into the elements of the quoted handle/account," spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said.
