Palestinian women have the right to life, safety, health and dignity like women in other countries in the world and they should not be abandoned as they face suffering in the face of Israeli occupation, Galolhu Uthuru MP Eva Abdulla said on Friday.

To mark International Women’s Day, Eva issued a statement in solidarity with the women and girls of Palestine and Gaza.

"They also have a right under international humanitarian law to be protected from violence, torture, ill-treatment or degrading treatment, including sexual violence," the statement read.

Israeli actions in Palestine are crimes against humanity and gross violations of international law and Israel must be held accountable for these crimes, it added.

"The international community has the power and the tools to end this suffering and must therefore redouble efforts to bring an immediate end to the occupation and suffering in Palestine," the statement stressed.

UN Women estimates that at least 9000 women have been killed in Gaza. Referring to information from the UN Women, the statement further noted that 80 percent of mothers are forced to skip their meals to feed their children and that two mothers are killed in Gaza every hour.
