Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan and the Maldives have agreed to increase their bilateral trade volume from $13 million to $200 million within the next two years.

Speaking after official talks held today during President Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif noted that while the two nations share a long-standing and close relationship, this bond has not been adequately reflected in their commercial ties.

"With the President's full support, I am pleased to announce that both sides will exert every effort to ensure that bilateral trade increases from $13 million to $200 million over the next two years," Sharif stated.

The Prime Minister further revealed that Pakistan has pledged to support the Maldives' initiative to plant five million trees. As part of this commitment, Pakistan has decided to donate 100,000 olive saplings and 100,000 seeds of various plant species to the Maldives.

"We have agreed to assist the project to plant five million trees in the Maldives. Under this initiative, I am happy to announce our decision to gift 100,000 olive saplings and 100,000 seeds of different varieties," Sharif said.

He added that these items would be delivered to the Maldives in phases over an agreed period.

During today's official proceedings, the Maldives and Pakistan signed a total of 20 agreements to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
