Mohamed Saeed has ended his hunger strike after receiving assurances that authorities will take decisive action to stop the public nuisance caused by a drug addict.

Saeed stated that both Home Minister Ali Ihusaan and Prosecutor General (PG) Abbas Shareef have guaranteed that the case regarding the individual, who has become a persistent public nuisance, will be thoroughly investigated.

"I ended this strike after approximately 35 hours. Minister Ihusaan assured me, and the PG also contacted me and my family late last night and again today, assuring us that the Prosecutor General’s Office will be actively pursuing this matter moving forward," he said.

Saeed further noted that Minister Ihusaan has provided an opportunity to re-examine past issues related to the individual and to report any previously undocumented incidents.

Saeed began his hunger strike yesterday morning inside the Henveiru Police Station. After being informed he could not remain inside the station, he continued his protest on Majeedhee Magu, about fifty feet from the station, until midday today.

Saeed, who also serves as a spokesperson for the Bank of Maldives (BML), spent the night sleeping on Majeedhee Magu and used a nearby mosque for his basic needs.

According to Saeed, the arrested individual had been causing distress to residents and commuters on Henveiru Kashimaa Hingun and Dhoohimeri Magu. He noted that despite the ongoing harassment, no permanent solution had been reached until today.
