The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) today released the official timeline for its National Council elections, scheduled to take place on November 27.
According to the timeline, applications for candidates will open on October 10. Three days later, the party will begin accepting applications for officials to manage the polling stations in Malé.
The deadline for individuals to register as party members to be eligible to vote in this election has been set for 2:00 pm on October 20.
The preliminary membership registry will be published on October 22, following which a window for filing complaints regarding the list will open. The deadline for submitting these complaints is October 25.
The deadline for candidates to submit their nominations is also set for 2:00 pm on October 25, coinciding with the membership complaint deadline. Furthermore, the list of candidates will be published on October 27, with one day provided for any objections.
The re-registration process for voters is scheduled to begin on October 27 and will conclude at 2:00 pm on November 6. The deadline for submitting complaints regarding the re-registration list is November 12.
Candidates may submit the names of their official representatives starting October 29, with the window closing at 2:00 pm on November 8. The final voters' list will be released on November 14, and the locations of polling stations will be announced on November 23.
On election day, November 27, voting will be conducted from 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm, followed by the announcement of preliminary results. The final results of the election are scheduled to be declared on November 30.
The upcoming National Council election on November 27 marks the first internal election held by the MDP since the party introduced amendments to its governing statutes.
