President Mohamed Muizzu has deleted a post on X featuring a photograph of Amina Imily Nazim, 21, who died in a car accident in Malaysia last night.

The removal follows a request from the family of the Hithadhoo native to refrain from circulating her images.

In his post, Muizzu expressed his condolences to the family following the passing. While the President’s Facebook post remains active, the accompanying photograph has been removed.

The family had issued an appeal late last night requesting the public and media to stop sharing the young woman's photo out of respect for their grief.

"It is a profound request from the family that our sister’s photo not be shared on any media platform, out of respect for the immense sorrow the family is facing," Imily’s aunt stated in a Facebook post last night.

The fatal accident involved a collision between two cars, with Imily travelling as a passenger in one of the vehicles. Reports indicate she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Photographs of the scene show one of the vehicles overturned, while the other sustained significant damage. It is understood that the driver and the other passenger in the car Imily was travelling in did not sustain serious injuries.
