Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Saudha, the younger sister of President Mohamed Muizzu, has said that she does not wish to disclose the identity of the individual who provided her with an MVR 2.4 million loan.

Speaking to Adhadhu, Saudha explained that the information regarding the lender was omitted from her financial disclosure because she was not legally obligated to provide it, adding that the lender also requested to remain anonymous.

"It is noted [in the financial statement] as a private party. The disclosure form does not require the submission of the person's name, ID card number, and all such details. I have disclosed as much as is required. It wasn't me; I took it from someone else. If that person does not want their identity revealed, I cannot provide their information, can I?" she said.

Saudha previously stated that the MVR 2.4 million loan was a student loan obtained from a businessman. She further noted that all relevant documentation regarding the transaction had been submitted to the bank.

The deposit of millions into Saudha’s account was flagged by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). It remains unclear whether the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has investigated the matter.

According to the financial statements Saudha submitted to Parliament for this year and last year, she received MVR 990,000 in salary over the course of a year. At the time of her most recent filing, her bank accounts held MVR 11,697 and USD 119.61.
