The Defence Ministry has granted an additional opportunity for businesses dealing in hazardous chemicals to obtain the mandatory "Chemical Sales Permit" and register their storage facilities on the Makudi portal.
The Ministry noted that by the previous deadline, only a small number of companies had successfully obtained the required permits and registered their storage sites on the portal.
The Ministry has announced a one-month extension, effective from today, for vendors to secure their sales permits and register the locations where hazardous chemicals are stored for retail.
The Ministry further cautioned that legal action will be taken under the Hazardous Chemicals Regulation against any party found selling chemicals without registration after this one-month grace period. Furthermore, such entities will be barred from receiving future permits to import hazardous chemicals into the Maldives.
The Ministry is currently conducting special initiatives to raise public awareness and ensure compliance with the laws and regulations governing the importation, handling, and storage of hazardous chemicals in the country.
Under the law, the Ministry retains the authority to conduct inspections at its discretion to ensure that those handling hazardous chemicals are operating in full compliance with established regulations.
