The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has included Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the former President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), on its list of tax defaulters.

Bassam was recently imprisoned after being convicted of embezzlement for using FAM funds to purchase an apartment at Amin Avenue.

The list released by MIRA also features Business Image Group, a company owned by Hassan Ismail, who served as the Secretary of Communications at the President’s Office during the previous administration.

Additionally, the list includes popular comedian Yoosuf Rafeeu (Yoosay), Schwack Maldives—the operator of Schwack Cinema—as well as Cibo Investments and Beverage Triple, the company behind Labamba Cafe.

While MIRA did not disclose the outstanding amounts for each entity, the authority said that every individual and company on the 33-member list owes more than MVR 1 million in unpaid taxes.
