A serious road accident occurred in Malé late last night involving a motorcycle operated by an unlicensed driver.
The collision, which involved two motorcycles, took place on Sosun Magu at approximately 1:15 am. Three individuals sustained injuries in the crash: two men, aged 21 and 22, and a 26-year-old woman.
Police confirmed that the 21-year-old man, who was operating one of the motorcycles involved, did not possess a valid driving license.
Footage of the accident is currently circulating on social media, showing all three victims lying on the ground following the impact. The video shows blood loss from the female victim's head.
This follows a recent fatal accident in Hulhumalé that claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl who was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle.
Statistics indicate that road accidents are the leading cause of death among Maldivian youth aged 15 to 24. Between 2008 and September 2024, a total of 115 people lost their lives in road accidents across the Maldives.
